In 2017, the Trust pledged £10,000 to RAF Scampton to help fund the costs of developing a disused facility into a Youth Hub. The Youth Hub will re-house the Station’s Airplay project and benefit military and non-military youngsters aged 4-18. Nearly 200 young people participate in activities on the Base and having one, purposely designed and developed building will provide much needed space for expansion as well as the opportunity for all agencies to work closely together.
Children and families at RAF Valley on the Isle of Anglesey will also benefit from a £10,000 donation. The Trust pledged support to the RAF Benevolent Fund who are raising funds to replace the Bases four play parks, all of which have fallen into various states of disrepair.
Other recipients of funding included RAF Benson, RAF Odiham, RAF Digby and RAF Brize Norton. They were amongst a number who successfully applied for funding for their Family Days, Service Days or in the case of RAF Boulmer, the Boulmer Bonanza!
RAF families and youngsters also benefitted from the Trust’s support of SSAFA’s Siblings and Young Carers break which took place during May half term and an event run by the Oxfordshire Play Association at RAF Brize Norton.
Finally, several RAF youngsters took part in the Annington Challenge, an annual initiative run by the Outward Bound Trust aimed specifically at Service youngsters.
