SSAFA's Short Breaks for military families with a child aged 3-18 who has an additional need or disability will receive £6,600 per annum for the next three years.
The Annington Trust has supported SSAFA's Short Breaks programme since 2017 and this renewed pledge signals the Trust's recognition of the value of the Breaks to military families of these highly popular holidays.
The funding will enable SSAFA to provide 20 places per year free of charge on the mid-week Break planned for October half-term.
Families often face challenges accessing suitable recreational facilities and the Breaks, run in partnership with The Calvert Trust, offer participants the opportunity to experience activities such as horse riding, kayaking, sailing, caving and abseiling, often for the first time.
Feedback received from participants from 2018 indicated that the experience had been hugely beneficial.
"I feel so much closer to my children. I've been given the opportunity to focus on them in an environment that accepts them for who they are."
"This experience enabled me to just give myself, my time and attention to my children by taking care of literally everything else for me. All I needed to do was pack and show up! Even now when I am typing this it still feels like a lottery win. Nothing like it was ever accessible for my family. Thank you!"
In acknowledging the Annington's Trust renewed pledge of support, James Chappell, Trusts Manager for SSAFA said "I am delighted that the Annington Trust has chosen once again to support our Short Breaks initiative. Your dedication to the wellbeing of Armed Forces families is very much appreciated."
"Your renewed three-year commitment to Short Breaks will give families the chance for much needed respite, without the practical and emotional challenges that a traditional holiday can bring. Families will have the opportunity to relax in the knowledge that they are supported and understood, helping to improve their overall wellbeing. The children will develop increased confidence as a result of the tailored activities. By supporting these families, we can help to ensure their independence and dignity - goals that are at the very heart of SSAFA's mission."
